truly one of the most incredible games in the entire medium and it’s still not enough like talk about crazy… I do think it has to do with race and a hesitance in engaging with non-white stories too but yeah
That game is an outstanding achievement. To get shut out and snubbed by the majority of this industry is embarrassing. It's a shorter game that came out early enough in the year - everyone had enough time to check this one out, they just didn't care to.
The only reason I really look forward to this day is so I can get clued in to all these 'great but not corporate enough for awards' games because of complaints like this.
So there I was reading Paste as usual, the best indie games article, and I start reading the 1000XResist review, and I'm thinking: "Oh wow Natalie would SO agree with this!" Then I get to the byline 😅
see i actually get why helldivers 2 was nominated, less so for the contents of the narrative and more bc it was told through a medium so uncommon for video games that motivated various styles of play, breaking new ground in the process. i accept helldivers 2 getting a nom
genuinely agree. i think it shows a lack of real interest in the medium, where the only things viable for being the "best narrative" are multi-million dollar triple-A affairs. how is Rebirth getting narrative noms when it butchers all of FF7's themes but 1000xRESIST is snubbed at every turn?
i hold a deep-seated dislike for Rebirth. less so for Remake. i think Rebirth fumbles all the best moments from the part of FF7 it's adapting, ESPECIALLY in its final couple of hours. i never expected a 1:1 adaptation but it squanders every bit of nuance the original had in favor of cheap thrills.

From the steam store page alone it just looks like an average graduation project for a game design degree.
