My interpretation was that Richard was positioning that a wall of fresh salary derived stock market investment money at the front end needs to be the roughly the same as those cashing out when they come out of this market and retire. Or it becomes less fund backed and more individually backed, <£.

Analogy taken further by how board members and CEOs then are remunerated by them attracting these ever value increasing investors of their stock. Which with these two posts together, could look like Ponzi in action. With government and trading institutional endorsement.

Economists (+accountants +lawyers) are professionals who may indeed have poorer wealth of knowledge or perception over what markets do and for why.

Yet, some choose to protect their interests by looking for good dividend payers +defensive stocks (P/E ratios) due to similar fears as Richard alludes.
