I’m afraid you’ll find that is only a core to the narrative at Point A. It is restricted to that though, and does nothing to advance the narrative to Point B.

It only explains where the story started, not where it ended or how it got there.

Even if you were right, though, your objection is irrelevant. If Point A can't occur in the first place without it being Christmas Eve, the movie is by definition dependent on Christmas for its plot. QED

Now, it is rather obvious that Christmas IS needed to advance the plot to point B, since John McClane's presence at the party at all is dependent upon it as well. No party, no John McClane. No John McClane, no limo driver to save the day at point D.
