And the most interesting question is why he is doing so. It is my belief that this is due to Trump's - reasoned - fear that as a consequence of the increasing threat to US security he and his followers constitute the military might need to step in.

And that is indeed what it is. Donald is a dictator, in power on an election where enough voters were deceived that the outcome was in effect rigged, and those who are in power by trickery or force fear the military, because the military have the actual physical power to remove them from office.

If that were to happen, the military would split, since not all are loyalists. I noticed this happened the day the Supreme Court turned against Trump; without their support, his coup attempt is a bit of a no go. I think he is planning to escalate things a bit further, hence the military take over.
