I've been wanting to buy it on sale for a while, but I'm curious.... will purchasing a license interfere with the file I manipulated to pirate it? The clip studio app doesn't recognize that I have a license, but it tricks the paint app into letting me use it still

Best to just uninstall with something like Revo Uninstaller on Windows so trace is left of it. Things like brushes or whatever should be fine I imagine.

Especially since merely uninstalling a program still leaves traces of it in your registry which will effect any future install. When I worked for Geek Squad, only a few pieces of software actually bothered to leave no trace.

theres only One Time Licenses for the PC/Mac versions, the iPad and Android are subscription only

They are unrelated to each other, so yes you can have a perpetual license on PC and a subscription on iPad/Android. The only issue that might arise is that the perpetual license is only the initial release, not the updates, so moving files between them may have compatibility issues with new features

I also never upgraded, so v3 files may open in v2, just have features missing. They had a big change during v1's long lifespan when they changed from Manga Studio 5 to CSP and files were not backwards compatible, but all versions of CSP might open in any version. I never looked into it.

Their pricing stuff is insanely convoluted for no reason. I'm still on perp v1 but as far as I can tell each version should be mostly compatible between each other until v4 launches, just the mobile one will get new features. I have no idea why they decided perp users only get first release version

CSP as a company has gone downhill since they changed to v2 (now v3), with their online connection requirements and absolutely insane pricing (perp. license only gets you 3.0, none of the updates for v3), but even still on v1 it's my favorite art program i've ever used.

I have mixed feelings about it too because I love v1 and have always recommended it, but the online connection requirement in later versions is a deal-breaker for me.
I heard you can also only use it on one device instead of 2, like before? not sure. Strange to walk back on features like that 🥲

It's genuinely nuts. I happily upgraded from Manga Studio 4 to 5 (which later became CSP) and would have paid to upgrade again for half the updates in v1 but now the updates are mostly minor and they added so much weirdness to it all. Its my favorite art program but now i feel i cant recommend it
