Trump just announced a further delay on tariffs... I wonder if this softens Canadian resolve to choose to wartime option (Carney) over the domestic frustration option (Polievre). I wonder if that's part of the motivation, in fact... or what else is happening behind the scenes now.
I don't think so. Any Canadian paying attention knows the threat Trump represents, and this just make Trump's threat unknown at this time. I would wager that Trump punting today makes it difficult for CPC to figure out a good message.
They've certainly been struggling; hard to pivot to be pro-Canada after all the complaining about how broken Canada is, in their mind. I love this for them, honestly.
That's an excellent point. I just don't understand Trump's thinking... do this too many times and it's like the boy who cries wolf. Maybe he thinks the uncertainty is destabilizing, or maybe there's domestic considerations at play. Or maybe he's just a chaos demon.
The US is the odd one out here. There is variation of course, but around the world generally red is associated with left parties and blue with right. In the US the association of blue with the Democrats and red with the Republicans didn't start until the 2000 election.
I think prior to 2000 it wasn’t opposite, it just wasn’t consistent. You could have seen different TV networks using different colours from each other on the same election night.
Our parties picked their colours first! Plus - red being left wing and blue being right wing is true basically everywhere that's not the United States.

Plus, Trump holding the sword of Damocles over our head will not lull us to sleep.
1) CPC started their "get to know Pierre" ads
2) Cabinet shuffle
3) Trudeau divorce
We need ranked choice voting.🗳️
Just need to be different, eh?
Just kidding.
Thanks! Yeah, I knew about the red/blue switch in 2000, but I didn't know it was different in other countries.
Makes sense, as red has historically been associated quite strongly with the "left".
