But, as usual with AI, that's not really what they've done. They created a system that can determine the position and orientation of a single image from a phone, using a 3D map created by people scanning locations in their games.

It's a feature that's completely redundant to the sensors already in every phone, so it's going to be hard to sell it to their users and make the money back on that investment. They will have to look at other ways of monetising it, and that will open up Pandora's box.
Imagine a world where you can't post a picture online without everyone being able to easily track you down. That is certainly novel, but I have a different definition of fun.
