ChatGPT is terrible at anything that goes beyond producing texts based on existing texts. It doesn't *know* anything. Last summer someone showed me some answers to etymological questions; the fact that ChatGPT claimed that an Ancient Egyptan word came from French says everything.
In one of the subthreads you mentioned kanji, I have done a fair amount of work on the history of the writing (excerpt of work in progress below)
But my knowledge of the historical linguistics proper are fairly superficial.
As a student, my major was Germanic Languages, indeed, I habe basic knowkedges on the history of Japanese, bcz Old Japanese was compulsory at the High school and I am also an examinated Japanese teacher.
Thank you very much for your willingness to help! π I'm afraid the matters I'd like to ask questions about are quite specialised (historical grammar, phonology and kanji).

Probably many others, but I donβt know Japanese and so donβt know researchers who only post in Japanese (e.g., scholars from Japan).
