Another great Jimmy Carter story: In 1974, when Carter was Governor of Georgia, he attended a Bob Dylan/The Allman Brothers Band concert in Atlanta. He invited them all to a reception at the governor's mansion afterward. (1/4)

No one from The Allman Brothers Band showed up. Later that night, Gregg Allman remembered the invite and decided to head over even though it was after midnight. The lights were out at the house and Gregg asked a security guard to tell Carter that he came but was sorry he missed him. (2/4)
As he walked back to his limo, the guard called Gregg back and said Carter would love to see him.
Carter came out and greeted Gregg. Said he was a fan & quoted him some of his favorite lyrics. Then he invited Gregg inside to listen to the new Elmore James record, drink some scotch, and chat. (3/4)
And then The Allman Brothers Band later helped raise money for Carter by playing a benefit concert for him when he started his presidential campaign and hardly had any campaign funds. (4/4)
