If you don’t mind anime movies, I’d say the ones directed by Satoshi Kon are a must-watch, especially Perfect Blue.

Edgar Wright is a great choice. Off the top of my head... Akira Kurosawa, David Lynch, Andrei Tarkovsky, Paul Thomas Anderson, Terrence Malick, Richard Linklater, Hayao Miyazaki, Joel and Ethan Coen, Ingmar Bergman. Should keep you occupied for a day or two. ;)

Just warning you - this list is a real mixed bag. Stylistically as well as thematically. Also I forgot to add Wes Anderson. And maybe Guy Ritchie... but he had some real stinkers, visiting RT before watching might be a good idea. :)

Not at all! He's done a great job with the Guardians movies. I also feel the same way about Jon Favreau (If you haven't, watch 'The Chef')!

I am looking to avoid Disney and the DCU on my search though. I've watched them several hundred times and am looking for a fresh cinema lens.
