The photographer, Eisuke Yamamoto, was a nephew of the Prime Minister, Admiral Gonpei Yamamoto, who later served as Commander-in-Chief of the Combined Fleet and Commander-in-Chief of Yokosuka Chinmoku.
At the time, he was a lieutenant on the staff of the 2nd Fleet and 2nd Squadron.
