I played a bit - not pro of course. Four years of high school. But probably more formative, I watched from about age 4, and so many friends and family also watch. I’ve been moving my sports consumption to soccer more and more, which was my primary sport growing up. But sports in general…

Why give sports so much time? Harry Frankfurt wrote this great moral psychology book on the Importance of what we care about. Tough to leave something behind that attaches to so many other connections.

I used to be a football fan - those SEC roots run deep - but I reached a point where I just could not bear to watch anymore. Every tackle seemed like it was doing damage.

Oh it is.

When scientists really figured out CTE a decade ago I naively thought that'd be the end of football. Certainly in the schools! No one is going to defend brain injury for children, right?
