I current have Peter Fritzsche’s Hitler’s First Hundred Days in my hands. And I can’t stop thinking about this passage describing life right before the Nazis seized power.

the world was in the midst of a worldwide depression AND the allies were imposing crippling payment sanctions on Germany. all the misery we have now is Trump inflicted. he is a miserable, demented old degenerate who no one in his party can stand up to.
The misery we have now is big corporation inflicted. They have bought the government - especially the GOP but to a lesser degree Dems too - and fight to kill every tiny bit of progress we’ve made over the last 40 years. But whenever ppl get angry the GOP redirects it to scapegoats and here we are.
are you seriously saying you wouldn't take Harris over Trump? yes big corporations are a huge problem but Biden and Dems do somethings about it like have an environmental protection agency and FDA. GOP is just evil.
No. I’m simply pointing out that the groundwork for fascism and oligarchy in America was laid over decades, that both parties contributed to it (though not to the same degree), and that our problems go way beyond just Trump himself. He’s the monster we created.
maybe, or we just might have a true idiocracy. if you are going to lay the groundwork you wouldn't choose a 78 year old rapist convict who has dementia to carry it out.
Trump doesn't have a single redeeming feature, he is both stupid and arrogant. fascism and oligarchy can do fairly well, it has
there are and have been many fascist dictatorships throughout the world. Franco ruled Spain for DECADES. This group are nearly all dipshits, morons, or grifters. you can't have fascism without a well run and functioning bureaucracy. everything he is doing will make everything worse.
this is striking for a slightly different reason: I know many Trump voters who: 1. Won 2. Profess satisfaction w/ all being done. And yet...still seem *ANGRY*. I get why we feel all the joy and fun seems lost...but why are they still so angry?
I think it’s because this isn’t a worldview where victory actually sates their resentments or grievances. It needs not just to dominate its opponents but to do so constantly
“Good nature is, of all moral qualities, the one that the world needs most, and good nature is the result of ease and security, not of a life of arduous struggle.”
