No doubt. But I’d have expected more damage to the fuselage itself. I guess we’ll find out soon enough. Must say, news coverage of accidents aren’t helping thus nervous flyer. (Though I recognize that coverage does not necessarily mean there is actually an increase in accidents!)
Per hubby, who's into aviation. The bolts that hold the wings on are designed to trigger/release in certain conditions (impact) and essentially the wings come away. This reduces the chance of the wings ripping the fuselage in half and causing greater injury.
Hubby is an aviation expert. He said the bolts that hold the wings on are designed to trigger in certain conditions (impact) and essentially the wings come away. This reduces the chance of the wings ripping the fuselage in half and causing greater injury.
Explains fuselage being intact!!! Does he have a theory for the damage? Could the runway have been unevenly snow-packed, causing a wing to touch runway?
Could be a wing clipping the ground, wind sheer. The wing tip is only 6 feet off the ground, so takes very little maneuvering for it to clip, skid, roll perhaps? Delta is calling it a landing incident.
Know nothing about planes—but flown a bunch—once we came close to clipping our wing upon landing; and then the same on the other side—like the pilot was struggling to keep us level…my brain imagined the snap of wings and barrel-rolling to a sliding stop.
Pilot landed safely—to a huge applause!!!🥳

(not that they crashed but that they survived!)

My Dad founded the Flight Recorder Playback Centre at NRC, by the way. So we’ve a few aviation enthusiasts in my family!
Anyway, there are now reports of more critical injuries, including a child. Hope they will be okay.

Did this plane barrel-roll on the runway?!
This is gonna be a very interesting landing video!
Confirmed: both wings and ?wingbox? missing.
Pilot landed safely—to a huge applause!!!🥳
