This is something I'm noticing with my small project at the moment. I ended up on a very odd resolution for my spritework that is making for both fun and frustration 🤣
When working on a game, this decision (the resolution) is made once, and after that, all art has to adhere to it. In our case, this lead to me wanting to make grass, but figuring out 1 pixel grass strokes really didn't fit the style. #gamedev #pixelart
So I drew some more grass. I started experimenting with what could be perceived as grass/small vegetation instead of thinking: grass = small, so: grass = 1 pixel. #pixelart
And I think it's really interesting how a certain illustrative style (bold and blobby and minimal, I guess?) is translated to pixels. And how a decision made 8 months ago (the resolution) influences what can be drawn, what not, and in what way. #pixelart #gamedev #indiedev
What I'm finding, is that I use more 'bold' 2 pixel strokes and endings of shapes than 'pointy' 1 pixel ones. And again, what pointy and bold means, is relative to the resolution.
