I'm always torn between the duality of the forced optimism of celebrating small victories (which I always do encourage in others), and the adamant refusal not to be pleased with something so small when there is so much more yet to be done.
I think you've gotta do what works for you. I don't see it as getting a gold star for doing something tiny; just noting that you haven't stopped, you haven't quit, haven't given up.
For instance, I put together one of those cube storage thingies and didn't pop a single screw, even a little, despite being real mad while I was doing it (unrelated to shelf)
