Despite it being more casual in setting, it is still a business venture and still should be treated as such with some level of professionalism. A client is entrusting you with their money out of the vast artist pool they can easily choose from.

Communication is the core to just about every transactional service. Bad communication is bad business practice. While being aware of the gray areas such as irl situations and unexpected events, it's still the responsibilities of both parties to communicate.

Many frustrations from the clients side come from either no deadlines set or met, little to no communication on status, watching the artist post other things, and waiting months to years while being ghosted. I'd be frustrated too.

From the artist's side, you can encounter irrate, entitled, or pushy customers and you have to be ready to address the situation the best you can with the most professionalism you can muster. Chill clients are cool and give you grace but don't get too comfortable and become lazy taking for granted.

On both artists and clients, you both need to set terms, boundaries, and or deadlines.
Bad professionalism can lead to either the artist getting a bad rep and slapped with scamming allegations for not talking or delivering product as well as clients who can get blacklisted and other artists-

-are warned to not service them. It's general to say that most of the responsibility still falls on the artist at the end of the day because you are the seller of a luxury product that is being consumed, so some form of etiquette is necessary.
