Experimental games have a harder time reaching a wide audience. I think it's important to make them though. When you say "poor quality" that can mean different things to different people. For me, as long as it runs well and lives up to the expectations set on the store page, that's good enough!

There are a lot of great games on steam, so user expectation is really high on there. Don't beat yourself up about getting a lot of negative reviews! Finishing a game and releasing it at all is quite an accomplishment :)

Someone on r/gamedev said that I'm not a dev, but a hobbyist who knows how to use a game engine. And you're right. Steam is a whole different platform from itch. I've released about 7 projects so far so finishing one is not magical to me anymore
