Space age theatrics aside, I think there’s a case to be made for Santa Claus as an emblem of the craftsman ideal. He’s shown here in his workshop as imagined by by Thomas Nast in 1869 in an illustration for a book-length edition of β€œA Visit from St. Nicholas,” the poem by Clement Clarke Moore.
