personally if I had fired 9 producers and suddenly realized that producers were necessary for game development, I would also realize that every producer knows each other and knows these contract producer roles are bullshit

The unfortunate thing with contract roles is it’s not like the negative feedback ever gets back to the parent company. Third-party recruiters entire bread and butter is built on the premise of getting temp contracted workers. They just move down the line until they get a hit 😪
I’ve seen way too many similar situations you’re in now: to be let go from a studio and contacted to return as a contractor. Very shitty practices, even if it errs on the side of sheer ignorance rather than maliciousness.
Yes!!! I got almost the exact same thing and had the exact same thoughts! They tried to be cagey about what it was and I said I wouldn't talk without basic details. As soon as I saw who it was I said no and told them why. I see the same listings from recruiters everywhere. They're desperate.
Meta contract recruiters dgaf in my experience 🤣. Afaik these are 3rd parties and don't have as much insight into employment history, but I also have an email from an internal Facebook recruiter that I received 2 weeks (!!!) after quitting in 2019 asking me if I was interested in roles there 🙄
Oh yeah I'm sure they have zero context for this, but personally I would have given them a heads up.
I've had people interview for FTE roles, not get them, and then someone else at the studio would be like "maybe we can offer them contract" and I'm like absolutely the fuck not.
50/hr on *contract*, no benefits, for a business critical role? lmao even if they hadn't just burned you specifically this is not going to get the outcomes they want
Ugh. If it's any consolation, it's not exclusive to your industry. My (non-clinical but still very important) team at the hospital has been short staffed for years. Our request for a new person was denied and they offered us a temp for 6 mos. It takes a year (minimum) to train someone for this role🤦
My partner is a game dev producer and I would venture to see if he was suddenly let go, I could spot a difference in that companies output in as little as 4 months 🤣
