I think some people really cannot fathom that media can be well made and enjoyable and also be for children at the same time. You can like the same things kids like without needing to justify it. It's ok!

I feel like for a lot of the previous gens, they're well aware that many of the shows they watched as kids lacked any emotional depth & were generally just 24 min toy commercials, which is something everyone knows nowadays, so the idea of kids shows made w/ genuine effort & enjoying it baffles them.
It's incredibly difficult, as an adult, to be able to separate things you enjoyed while you were young vs now. You end up interrogating your own feelings trying to find a reason to like it outside of the fact that you just... did. It almost feels wrong to like them now. It shouldn't be the case.
I am constantly impressed with shows like Doctor Who (when they get it right) that can deliver a great story for the kids and an equally great for the adults. At the same time.
Pure telly voodoo.
I think a big reason for it is many people fail to acknowledge the humanity of children which makes it hard to see how media catered toward them can be just as complex as things with more mature themes.
I still think that it's more childish to be embarrassed of childish things. Let go of that insecurity. You know who gets embarrassed to like kiddie things? Kids.
Its so weird how some people will conflate being made with a younger audience in mind with lacking depth. Art is art, it takes a very skilled group to really make *good* children's media, just like any other form of art.
Turns out that well made art can be appreciated by a wide audience.
Obviously not to say that a work needs to appeal to everyone to be good. Pieces of art that are made for a very specific group tend to be all the more impactful for that group, just that when something like children's media is well made even if you don't "get" it, you can still appreciate it.
Not every piece of children's media has gotta be Avatar to be good, but that also doesn't mean something should be written off bc it has a specific demographic in mind, especially when that demographic is children.
Getting across themes in a simple and effective way be HARD
