I’d caveat what i’m about to say in that only a relatively small number of farms will be affected by the new IHT, as far as I understand it. I don’t think it is hugely punitive and still benefits those that wish to pass a cultural land and assets to their family.

But farming has to pay. in the past farmers have been heavily subsidised and therefore were able to absorb costs which it can no longer do. Without subsidy the industrialisation of farming (which is already here to some extent) will become the norm. Farmers and the countryside have a lot to lose.

I don’t disagree with the IHT changes, but I think as I’ve said before, the amount of disinformation that is circulating is causing unnecessary fear and anger. There’s no one size fits all with this and from 300 acre farms to James Dyson that will be plenty who feel hard done by.

Yip I get you, that's my understanding too. However, looking at the protests and hearing some of the people being interviewed on the news, you would think that all the families of all the farmers in the land are now due to become destitute as a result of this policy.
