I agree - the signs are a tiny part of the issue; access, perception of safety, parental investment in their child being physically active, peer group etc much more of a factor.

Yeah, it's a shame UK still seems to treat children in the old seen and not heard way. A child friendly community would lift us all up

I also note the few bits of scaffold pole bolted to the railings at the top of the slide. They didn't really do risk assesments in those days so we have to assume there was empirical evidence that the gap was large enough for a child to fall through.
