What he writes about the ship platform is correct but I think the rumors about a storm in the area are exaggerated. I have no idea why they sank, but it's weird that there are so many in one day.

Sure, but even Russian merchant mariners know how to read a weather forecast, and the local conditions would also be well known. This is basic stuff for a sailor. They could have stayed in the Sea of Azov if they felt there was anything problematic about going into the Kerch Strait.
Well, at this point you are getting into the realm of the individual how's and why's of a bad decision made by a group of people, and that could be anything. Maybe someone higher up told them to swim anyway. Maybe they just didnt care. Human error is vast
Yeah, and I am also not saying that this is not what happened. It could be. But I do think it's weird that multiple ships suddenly sink at the same time in weather conditions that are quite normal.
well, according to multiple russian media sources i've read and their own search and rescue service, the weather WAS stormy. 7 on their rating system. volgoneft 212 got split in two and one person died, vogloneft 239 got off easy and managed to get dragged back to the shore
in one video i've watched, a sailor literally says that they just "wanted to celebrate new year's at home". if it's true or just a joke i don't know but hey, i get it
I think it's one of these "we might never know". Also, I take issue with "They could have stayed in the Sea of Azov if they felt there was anything problematic about going into the Kerch Strait."
That's not how things work in russia. They have mentality of slaves, especially it military is involved
So the another, also likely explanation, is that both ships received an order to deliver oil (frequently it's civilians doing military logistics for "SMO") and dared not to disobey, despite knowing that the conditions are risky.
Maybe Russia sabotaged the ships themselves? It wouldn't be the first case of them intentionally causing ecological damage. It could be a way to try to make the green parties call for peace at any cost.
6/ The Project 1577 tankers now have an average age of nearly 50 years and do not meet the requirements of the International Maritime Organisation (IMO). In particular, their cargo tanks are excessively long and they lack settling tanks or sufficiently high double bottoms.
Researchers have speculated that roughly three of every 10,000 waves on the oceans achieve rogue status, yet in certain spots— such as coastal inlets and river mouths— these extreme waves can make up three of every 1,000 waves, because wave energy can be focused.
insurance would require a valid ownership and seaworthiness certificates. ownership is severely masked and lloyds has provided severely outdated info to the bbc about ownership.
I guess incorrect ballasting. To save time in harbor so the pesky Ukrainian drones make a horror show. They have started to pump out ballast water beginning in the bow. The correct way is to do it somewhat equal over the ship length and with.

Maybe they had an urgent need (supply for Crimea or Evacuation from Syria) and few resources, so they had to use ships in poor condition.

I wonder if a mine can break a ship in two in somewhat rough seas.

Any ship should be able to sail those.
