Absolutely. Having lived in Latin America, I find it hugely annoying that in the UK, even broadcasters tend to use "America" interchangeably with "the USA".
X world country doesn't mean anything. Pakistan, Iran, Iraq and Somalia are all "First World" by definition (Western Bloc), but I doubt anyone who uses that categorization would ever call them that
