This reminds me of the Seinfeld episode where Elaine hoards contraceptive sponges because they’ve been taken off the market. (A real bad idea since they didn’t work and she’d have been a terrible mother!)

one of my dad's most dad-ish traits was when I was a little kid his favorite sneaker was discontinued so he bought 120 pairs and put them in the storage room in the basement and the stacks have just slowly gone down over the course of my life
