Especially, Romances that seem cliche or showcase relationship dynamics that feel immature to an older readership.
Yes, that includes “simplistic” writing styles and word choices.
Some of those stages are raw, clumsy, messy places we’ve all been through.
With poor choices and bad grammar and cringey euphemisms.
While these critiques are often valid I don't find them very useful much less rigorous. They're cheap shots.
As well as the target audience for the story.
While some might prefer cunt or pussy in a dark contemporary mafia Romance because it fits the “dirty, bad” tone of those stories.
