the best gaming experience i had this year was watching a friend stream Harold Halibut. Don't know exactly when i stopped caring about the art i loved getting "credit" from the kinds of places that give out "___of the year" awards, but it sure has happened.
I mean, it goes back to the Nintendo vs Sega days. People want to justify their purchases for... reasons? Like if you enjoyed what you bought just be happy.
I agree to an extent in regards to two people arguing or debating GoTY but I love this time of year just because anyone’s favorite game of the year is a recommendation. I’ve already discovered and bought 3 games I hadn’t really heard of before that have been solid.
I mean I consider it fun but in the same way as a question like "Who do you think would win in a fight, Mario or Goku?" Is fun. The answer is meaningless but you can still spark some interesting conversations with it.

Fuck GOTY.
I want Worst Game of the Year.
I want to know what the biggest piece of garbage was so we can shame the hell out of the management of those projects.
