I feel like it's just that there's mystery abound, I don't even think the characters interest me anymore and now the opening is different I'm like what is this show providing me with
getting to the end and finding out just how much was left to Allegory and Symbolism instead of actual character experiences was a strange kind of disappointment i don't think i've felt before
like i knew a lot wasn't going to be literal but at some point there just stops being stakes
i saw like 3-4 eps back in uni cos anime club (they stopped screening it when they saw it got Like That) but for some reason it's always been in the back of my mind as a "what was that about" thing
partly cos i loved the opening, partly cos someone told me "the penguindrum" was something insane
[*scheming how I'm going to lay down the breadcrumbs to get you to watch utena instead after a long break so that this unfortunate side journey you've had doesn't impact your reading of it*]
The thing is ikuhara shows are like a catalogue and talking about them in isolation is ultimately a very stupid thing to do (due to the Patterns) but like you do just need a pallet cleanser from what I personally just see as misery porn at the end of the day
difficult to condense all my thoughts into Small Posts but. I have meditated on this for about ten years now. Not an author with the best of intentions either. Happy to chat more about it when you're done or decide not to bother lol
