You have to do some ‘shifts’ which is typically manning the front desk, helping people sign up for tours and ‘checking out’ crutches or other stuff they loan out.

They did not have a ‘meal plan’ or anything like that at the time. The camp had ‘able-bodied’ folks, like me, to help drive the art-car/tours and help around the camp, and they have mobility-challenged folks who are able to just enjoy the playa.

The last time I camped there was 2018, so things may have changed. But in general it’s a do-it-yourself camp. Bring it yourself. They provide a space for tents/RVs, a common shade area for some tents, and another with some tables, so people can cook there, and they provide a central area for power.

If you can go to see for yourself and find a connection among the 80,000 others out there, do it anyway...
It's totally worth it if you're open to the experience and leave expectations at the door...

I will say, though, that I'm impressed by those people who seek to find themselves in Black Rock City in order to "break" themselves. I've heard this from a couple of people who haven't yet been but want to go and it blows my mind. I didn't have that level of self awareness when I attended my first.

I was planning to go to this event for nearly 15 years, had time to wrap my brain around it. But, expectations and reality are very different and I spent more time in survival mode rather than floating with the flow, playing, interacting, and volunteering left and right, which is what I wanted...

My first burn was in 2013 when a partner cultivated an experience that made Burning Man really enjoyable for me. I went again in 2014 with a different partner and the result of my first two years in Black Rock City was that "burning man ruined my life".

I did not return to BRC until 2019.

Probably not.

My advice, in this moment, is for burners:

Don't "take" someone to Burning Man. Give them a ride, carry in their shit, help them set up camp, do whatever. Just don't take anyone to Burning Man.

People need to take themselves.
