This doesn’t compute. A substation the EAST coast, less than halfway up the country is going to help receive power coming from the far North west? I’d agree if it was in Stornoway or even Glasgow, but Hull???

The link will be HVDC and it requires less planning to lay a cable at sea.

If they landed it in Scotland they would need to install an overland AC connection, that would require more planning and increase the losses.

Landing it further down reduces losses and minimises planning consents.

They could make it UHVDC which would reduce losses further, so far China is the only country that has used UHVDC.

The key variable for landing point is not proximity to Iceland, but proximity to the main UK grid and sufficient transmission infrastructure to receive that power. 🔌💡

As to if this happens. Projects of one form or another have been under consideration for 15yrs or more. Technical certainly but Ice lukewarm

I like that map, really nice & clear. Looking at the geographical arrangement again, it’s almost like GB points directly at 🇮🇸 so the diff between E/W landing sites I guess is far lower than I was thinking. I had visualised Iceland much further West. I should know better really, having flown there! 😂
