My hottest of takes is that maybe you're just watching bad anime? Old anime was largely pretty terrible too, it just got filtered out much more heavily so you didn't have to wade through it.

Frieren stands right up there with Lodoss, for example. Pick whichever of the two Lodoss you like more.

if nothing else, it goes to show how accessible even the crappiest seasonal anime is these days
don't have to worry about them being exclusively found in flea markets on ancient VHS, even if that's probably the fate some of them deserve lmao
