By traditional standards, the cost of the production is beyond covered by now.
There is no reason outside of corporate greed for maximum profits at this point.
In the end, I think there will always be champions of physical media. And even in the worst case scenario, I think it will at least survive as a niche thing.
Also not a knock on if you prefer digital for the convenience. Just more of a “we should really keep both around”
It's part of the reason why I'm not against the Epic Game Store, since it provides an alternative for steam but Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo requires them!
