The units themselves are actually pretty cheap, but the installation certainly will not be, especially for a bypass version.

My house has a forced air version that just needs a square hole in the return duct, a water line, and a drain.

Hang drying your clothes makes them last longer, and it humidifies the room. If you get decent racks (~$35?), you save a lot in the long run, especially if you currently pay to use a drying machine.

This is what I do.
We have solar panels (sun sponges) on our roof & are net metering. To save energy in the winter, when they're snow covered, I use a drying rack for laundry, if I'm not in a rush for the clothes.
