I’m all for paying artists but even successful indie bands do not have the budget for this (or the need for it tbh), let alone people who are going to be splitting 100 bucks between four bands.

I've always found this behavior baffling. Like, if you think the photos are that good, then work out an informal licensing deal. You for the use of their image, them for the rights to reproduce the image in a work. Otherwise just keep them to yourself, because why squeeze blood from a stone.

I really think it’s just young or inexperienced people who don’t understand how the music industry works. They don’t understand that what they are asking is weird. I try hard not to dunk on them, but it doesn’t help that the ppl who do this are rarely good photographers.

As a general rule, if I know someone in my scene is trying to do this (and I'm friends with the band), then I'll go out and take BETTER pictures of any event I know they will be attending for free.
