those are a happy medium. i definitely prefer getting to customize my character but if they're pre-set and just don't say anything, i at least don't have to deal with 'ough that is not something i agree with or like hearing' which takes me out of it and ruins my experience.

personally i prefer a well written protagonist that gets me in their headspace. I have plenty of time to be myself, I want a game to convince me I'm not me for a little bit.
