I was initially hoping for an original story, but seeing how RotS is special to me (being the first SW I ever saw in theaters, which prompted me to go back and rent all the old movies), I figured I’d give the novelization a shot. (2/11)

From the prologue alone, I was already impressed with the quality of the writing. I’m no book critic and my vocabulary is weak, so I’ll just say the writing is “grandiose” and “poetic.” (3/11)

I was easily drawn into the world, and the characters felt more real and complex than their film counterparts, with reworked scenes, new perspectives, and vastly improved dialogue. (4/11)

I found myself unexpectedly engaged by characters such as Mace Windu and General Grievous, who were granted more dimension than the movie allowed. Palpatine’s rise to power is portrayed in even greater detail. (5/11)

And perhaps most importantly, Anakin’s descent into the dark side is now handled much more realistically. You get plenty of pages diving into his thoughts and feelings. (6/11)

Needless to say, Obi-Wan gets greater depth as well, with lots of insight into how his mind works, being a Jedi Master struggling with attachment. (7/11)
