Some very strong character beats that color Rose and Jackie's relationship and explain a little bit why Jackie is Like That.

Most importantly there is a later timeline / universe in which this episode happens differently but I don't think this is necessary for understanding that

You can skip it, The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances are my favorite episodes so I'm a bit biased lol. But for real, you can skip the episode and not miss a whole lot of plot line.

Its been awhile since I watched this episode, but I think she learns not to bleep with history for personal gain. Something the Doctor does all the time.
