Are you reading them for the 1st time? If yes, you're in for a treat with "The Murder of Roger Ackroyd". You can get it on Project Gutenberg, bc the copyright has also expired. A British crime writers association wanted to expel Christie for this book - it's brilliant.

Having an unreliable narrator is very common now, but back then it was something really new. And the outcry was huge. 😁

(Unfortunately Christie got more racist with time. She wrote some of her worst antisemitic tropes in the 1950s.)

It's a well-written and ibtricate mystery novel, kind of like a murder in a PG Wodehouse setting, but there's a fair amount of racism to wade through.

The aspect I liked best is how the WW1 time setting is integral to the plot and central to who Poirot is.

Defending "gallant little Belgium" was the official media line for why UK went to war in 1914 and Poirot is literally a gallant little Belgian refugee in the village where the murder happens.
