Denmark saw one of the steepest declines, in an indication that anger over Trump’s hostility towards Greenland may be contributing to the steep drop-off in visitor numbers.

Given the US apparent perceives policy on checking phones/SM accounts for negative views on the US, who would really gamble on travelling there? Majority of vistors from EU would be economically ok and maybe informed (not tate). So might have concerns and criticism, fancy prison instead of Disney?
That’s a major issue. Europeans are being rejected entry based on their opinion on Trump. I personally have visited US west and east coast around 10 times in total and we were planning a trip to the west coast again this summer but cancelled it. Can’t risk being detained w my kids
As a Dane I can share it’s a profound change. We used to stand with US whenever you needed us. That’s over. Will take a decade or more to rebuild the trust
Similar to the impact of Brexit on the UK's reputation but a million times worse. I used to travel to the US for business & to see family quite a lot but now I would be genuinely scared to be detained. My daughter was planning to go & visit cousins but doesn't feel it's safe. Extraordinary.
They fired all the CDC cruise ship health inspectors and lead epidemiologist, which is weird because they were entirely paid for by the cruise ship industry.
European here: Everything the guy from Kajak says it’s true.
A large part of Europe won’t set foot on American soil under Trump (hey, you might get the bonus of an ‘extended stay’) and is actively looking for alternatives to American product/services.
I heard a maga voter owner of a golf resort in Florida yesterday on the radio. She thought that the Canadians had forgiven them. She didn't believe that the Chinese stuff she buys on amazon would double in price. She thought that Trump had a plan.
Going to be a steep learning curve for these people.
I think by "great again" he means the US having the same number of tourists from Europe and Asia as we had during the McKinley administration, around 1899.
Nobody in their right mind should risk indefinite detention by a capricious border guard just to enjoy a holiday. There is a risk they send you to a foreign prison…. forever. I am a US lawyer and there is zero chance I cross the border right now.
I was just chatting today with a work colleague from Chile who's going to be in the States for a couple weeks. Without thinking I warned her to be very careful up here (and she agreed). Afterwards it struck me how crazy it is, that we have to think in those terms! But it's only logical right now.
700 million wealthy consumers in the free world hates USA now and will not travel there, will not buy the goods and will not accept governments and companies bending to the US crazyness…
In 2017, Canadians brought in roughly $236.5 million to Coachella Valley - the desert encompassing areas including Palm Springs, Palm Desert and Rancho Mirage - the Desert Sun reported.
Trumps plans do not threaten "tourism", they threaten the world and real people. The only way to show that the US is now a hostile environment is to not go there unless you really gave to (should be code orange). We skipped a trip to the US as well.
Can’t see why folks from Denmark or Canada wouldn’t visit a country just because the President threatened us with a takeover!! Didn’t see that coming from 1000 miles away !! 🇨🇦✌️
Yeah, I mean, why not visit before you get takenover,
you know, get to know your new nice landlord, bring a little present along, ... first impressions are so important!
Latin American tourists don’t want to have a chance at being snatched off the streets by masked men and sent off to prison? Seems like a marketing failure.
Hahaha 😂 yes 👍 it is for sure ! They can always travel just a bit further north , we love tourists in Canada 🇨🇦 and hopefully in 3 years nine months we can all get back to normal!
Think of all the people coming for World Cup next year. US has 11 host cities, Mexico 3 and Canada 2.
Can Medicine Hat, Regina and a half dozen other cities build stadiums in time?
FYI for everyone: he left Kayak over a decade ago, as he's venture capitalist / entrepreneur who sold it (or merged it, I can't remember) with Priceline for $1B+.
A very good & true sentiment by him, and he certainly knows the travel biz, but this isn't an official position of Kayak or anything.
USA should be glad if the distrust only applies these four years, but for the good, smart, educated Americans (so no Trump voters) I fear the damage will continue for (much) longer.
Most Americans don’t realise how pissed people in Canada, Denmark, Greenland and the EU countries are.
At least two of my European friends and relatives were planning on visiting the US this year. Rather than face even a small chance of random, unjust incarceration, they’re staying home. That’s at least $4,000 apiece that won’t be spent here — where it would improve our balance of payments.
I currently have family from Illinois visiting me in the UK and they are so embarrassed to be American that’s they are telling us not to visit as MAGA is a true embarrassment to the US. Hey detest Trump and will be participating in nationwide protests when they get back to Chicago.
Not at all surprising (we’ve earned every bit of it) and it’s working a bit in reverse as well.
We have good friends who had been planning a trip to Scotland this summer, but they had a really hard time finding Airbnb or Vrbo owners willing to rent to Americans, and have decided to scrap it.

1. Will Belgium let me in?

The USA under Trump is totally untrustworthy.
Going to be a steep learning curve for these people.
I wouldn't be surprised to see this figure creep into the popular culture of the nations whose citizens we've treated so badly.
I mean, either way the US tourism industry is the one suffering.
US is in decline. It’s getting much much worse…
In Denmark we also have numerous Facebook groups sharing ideas and knowledge.

Naaah that can’t be it….can it?

It's gonna get worse 👹 #25 to get him
