except two things: people will see the rise in price and attribute it to "inflation", and this will be used as a reason for Musk and Trump to do all kinds of other nasty tax increases and layoffs, and this also allows for tax cuts for the rich.

and then remove all the money those tax cuts for the rich and gutting the IRS will take away. (gutting the IRS means that the rich don't get audited, because they can defend themselves against auditing)

Those two factors eliminate all the gains from tariffs completely.
