among the more knowledgeable of the sangha here in the PH this is already happening. practitioners here engage in dhyana meditations, mantra-chanting, mudra performance, and weekly pujas (daily if they have nothing to do). there's a slew of new, younger practitioners as well, mostly mahayana

there's no divergence or even dissonance with the sublation of god (catholicism) or bathalang maykapal and jesus into the buddhist hierarchy here. i've had a fellow dharma brother talk about how jesus and god were at the bottom rungs of the formless realm (arupyadhatu) with chenrezig above them

similarly, i've had multiple dharma friends who were lgbt that practice buddhism because it was more accepting of them, but they couldn't tear away from catholicism, so there's ongoing syncretism here. unlike america where you choose a religion and follow it, here you have to follow catholic rites

because that's what the greater culture is built on, so buddhists perform catholic rituals and have catholic shrines (ginoong maria dambana for protection, etc). on top of that, some of them still do believe in an afterlife--they equate catholic heaven with a pure land

my vajrayana dharma brother who was raised buddhist but has had to live through catholicism has said that heaven is similarly a temporary state that was not part of nirvana, it was really interesting. that dharma brother is really deep into esoteric buddhism

he has a cousin that is essentially a siddha in power but he refuses to start a temple and just peddles his abilities somewhere in nueva ecija, but he can see into past lives, subdue demons, and all the more of that, while performing and following catholic rituals.
