Fuck golf. Well, fuck golf clubs owning loads of land that would be better for the environment if left to go wild, and better for the public if they were common ground.

As a golfer and conservationist let me put it this way. You have a choice.
That land is either a golf course that supports wildlife ecosystems (there are golf courses with certified Audubon Sanctuary accolades) or a real estate development, because that land is privately-owned?
A third option? Interesting. I thought that I knew the meaning of "expropriation" and has to look it up first. Do you need to do it on certain grounds?
Golf can probably be killed by inventing a loud, fast version with a low cost of entry. If courses start attracting city kids in running gear throwing frisbees it'll soon turn out that the land is urgently needed for parks or housing after all
My dad was a member of a golf club for 50 years. He had his 90th birthday there. To say they were not kid friendly would be an understatement- they were positively kid hostile. Acres of open space and they made it excruciatingly clear our kids weren't allowed near any of it...

Obviously they didn't want the kids inside either. In the end they were forced to run around the car park. My youngest slipped over and so in all the photos he's covered in blood with a bust up lip.
So yeah fuck golf, fuck golf clubs and everything they stand for

Also, fuck orange, power hungry fuds churning up a nature reserve and bullying locals in order to build a golf course no sane person wanted. Only the oilrich arseholes in Aberdeen are impressed with Trump. Hope Alex Salmond is getting regularly ass raped in hell by Hitler for his part in enabling it
During lockdown our local golf club was open to the public. It was brilliant and so well used - people walking, children playing and, during a particularly snowy week, sledging. Of course, as soon as they could, they turfed everyone off again
When they were planning and building Milton Keynes, the original plan was for a LOT more space for golf courses than we got. I think somebody quietly pointed out that Woburn was literally just down the road, and I'd like to thank that person for knocking such nonsense on the head.
