in retrospect maybe it was a mistake to tell young people that reading, the arts, the humanities weren’t important and that “learning to code” was sufficient for a good life.

Exhibit A: I have a completely absurd PhD and a somehow ended up with a great career and my software developer spouse with a computer science degree and 20+ years experience couldn’t find a job for a year and a half.
Seeing everything as just part of digits has been a mistake. There's more to life than that. Reading, the arts, the humanities, that is what enriches our life, over simply coding. And I am aware of the irony in saying this on social media. Read away!
