A 2010 SCOTUS decision: Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission. Basically, it held that restrictions on corporate spending in elections was not consistent with Free Speech.

I imagine the argument is that the giveaways are not predicated on HOW you vote. I also think there may be repercussions in the future. But the wheels of justice grind slowly. And there are two tiers of justice. One for the wealthy and one for the rest of us.

The people who write the laws, enforce the laws, and interpret the laws are beholden to the corporate teet. And the more beholden they become, the more favorable to the wealthy the laws become. They better fix it soon, though. We have people celebrating the murder of greedy CEOs.
