Fun fact, if you're throwing sand from the Sahara desert, you're technically throwing corpses of the microalgae called Diatoms.
They make their shells out of silica, so when they die they turn into sand essentially.

Diatoms are kinda rad though
They look like living snowflakes and how many different species are out there? Between 20 thousand and 2 million? They're almost one-of-a-kind... Just like snowflakes!!!
