Gang, at this point I’m too disillusioned to expect all of you to mask always (even though you should), but for the love of GOD, please at least mask at airports and on planes when you travel to events!!!

It is as simple as many people find wearing a mask to be uncomfortable. You can try to explain the benefits all you like, and it’s not about wanting to deliberately flout science, but it’s just about comfort.

Exactly! Plus while on a plane it’s easy to imagine the hacking cough germs behind me are floating near me as there’s no physical area for them to go but to those around the sick person.

Airborne transmission is very easy to comprehend while flying.

I’ve been to Hawaii three times before the pandemic and Europe once and I got sick on the plane every time. Since the pandemic, I have masked on every flight and never experienced so much as a sniffle. It’s a total no-brainer. Who wants to be sick on vacation?

It's odd. My colleagues even notice that when I fly with them to conferences, and I mask on flights/airless spaces and they don't, they get sick and I don't. They comment. But they won't change. Mysterious.

I can understand why people are reluctant to mask in certain kinds of social situations but when traveling in planes and trains and buses surrounded by coughing strangers it’s utterly baffling to me

I never even feel awkward in those settings. I guess some people think masking is all or nothing and there’s no point masking in transit if not all the time but there definitely is!
