Why is google docs trying to gaslight me by saying "axe" is spelled "ax". Why is this happening the same day I was teaching my preschoolers how to spell certain words and one of the cards was a picture of an axe but the spelling was ax. I have literally never seen it spelled that way before today

I think there's been a cultural shift that normalized "axe" in the USA because we've seen it so much in fantasy works.
By many centuries.
Another more obscure one is 'aether' becoming more common than 'ether' again? That one might be my imagination though haha.
Apparently even Old Dutch used to have those, which I only learned earlier this year.
