I am asking you to stop overreacting not because I am certain Fascism won't happen but to avoid the very real possibility of fear mongering leading to something like Jan 6. I have seen this during 2021 where every Republican were freaking out over stolen election that led to Jan 6
They are already salivating for dems to something similar. You may be smart enough to understand not to do anything stupid but a lot of people don't. When people are afraid rationality goes out the window. This is why I am telling you guys to chill.
It was *freaking 2006ish* before the popular consciousness caught on that telling someone to calm down does not, in fact, work at calming them down.
But it does a bangup job at making them feel dismissed and unheard.
Wait till their brains register what is truly happening, and their God-king lied to them and caused them all their grief, they trusted him, and he's turned on them Bigly, lol. “They will be the ones overreacting”.
I’m gonna be vulnerable here. I would have been one of those people. By late 2017 I knew I’d made a mistake. I voted Biden in 2020 & Mama Harris in 2024. But I deeply regret my 2016 vote. I voted for hate and repression, because that’s how I was raised, & I just didn’t question it enough to change.
And now we move on together to fight the good fight. ☮️
I had 2 advantages you didn't: I grew up in the NY/Philadelphia media market, and Trump has been a scumbag attention whore since the 80s. And I went to basic training in the Cold War era. His campaign/transition teams' ties to Russia were 🚨.
All I can say at this point is that I’m so terribly sorry, and have made the full on switch to the other side, which if I look deep down, supports things I’ve always supported even though I voted against it. 🥴🤦♀️
Thanks for being vulnerable and sharing. You certainly are not alone. If only more people 1) took the time to really reflect and 2) actually got off their butts to vote.
Funny.
My dad told my brother and I we were overreacting not two weeks ago when we were confronting him about his stupid fucking vote and the ramifications of it.
I doubt time will make any difference. I tried to communicate the danger in 2017 and that ended with us not speaking for over a year.
The only thing I can hope is that my youngest brother also arguing my side will make him think more.
It was apparent he's a severely low info voter.
Oh how I hate that phrase. Heard it too many times in my life.
I am a therapist and I express my feelings and have spent many years encouraging others to do so.

Unfortunately, that narrative prevailed.
And MSM just allowed the gaslighting Republicans to get away with it.
Yes I take on all the burdens of my loved ones. It’s in my blood to be cautious.
Our freedoms are finely tuned.
all those little incursions (women's reproductive rights, trans hate) add up.
It's not just about wanting to keep their bosses/donors/cash cows happy.
Simply put, America values emotional stability at all costs. Over solidarity, over compassion, over everything else.

I'm gonna try to remember it for next time.
