As someone who sends a newsletter to a left-leaning audience of ~385K people my data indicates this is not a widespread phenomena. I’ve a had a handful of people unsubscribe for this reason but overall subscriptions and open rates are up.

People are distressed but not giving up

I live in gerrymandered TX. I love politics. Majored in it. Lost friends to it. But DJT 2.0 stress is too much.

We know what he's going to do and have no means to stop him. So, I'm not listening to pods, watching TV news, am avoiding the drama except here.

It's about physical and mental survival.

A lot of people felt that she would win by a landslide. She ran a campaign of hope and a positive path moving forward. They also vehemently didn’t want him back. They felt massively let down on 11/6.

I work in tv news, and used my past week's pre-planned vacation to put some much-needed distance between my brain and the daily onslaught. However, I read Ken Follett's entire "The Century Trilogy" which refreshed my US history with a thousand-foot view and some important perspective.

I signed up shortly before the election and I'm keeping my subscription going. I don't always trust the NYT anymore, there's a lot of substack writers who I think are more informative to read (obviously including you!)

I wanted to unsubscribe because I wanted to rid myself of anything connected to the election, but I had subscribed for a year so I kept it and I’m glad. There’s a difference between reading and watching the news. Reading and/or listening to a podcast is less emotional. You can stay calm. Whereas tv is hard to cope with. Don’t want the daily Trump show on TV.
